Dr. Zabeen did her FCPS in Pediatrics from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons after completing her MBBS. She furthered her expertise by undergoing training in Pediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in Sydney for a year, supervised by Prof Kim Donoghue, past ISPAD President.

Her primary research interests lie in type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, and growth in children. With more than 60 publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals, she has made significant contributions to the field. Dr. Zabeen also serves as a reviewer for various national and international journals.

Actively engaged in research, Dr. Bedowra Zabeen is currently the Principal Investigator of first Randomized Controlled Trial on insulin in Bangladesh titled “Analogue vs Human Insulin for Youth with Type 1 Diabetes in Low-Resource Settings: A Randomized Controlled Trial (AnHuT1D trial).” This collaboration involves the University of Pittsburgh, Life for a Child, and the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh.

In her capacity as the Secretary General of the Paediatric Endocrine Society of Bangladesh, Dr. Zabeen plays a crucial role in advancing the field of pediatric endocrinology in the country. She is also an active member of the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD) since 2007, and has been invited as speaker in different ISPAD meetings. She has contributed as an author of the Microvascular Complications chapter in the ISPAD guidelines for both 2018 and 2022.

Furthermore, Dr. Zabeen is a member of the Asia Pacific Paediatric Endocrine Society (APPES), showcasing her dedication to regional collaboration and advancements in pediatric endocrinology. Her multifaceted roles as a clinician, researcher, and society leader highlight her commitment to improving the lives of children with diabetes and endocrine disorders.
